Mystery of the Missing Sunspots, Solved?
What about solar flares, what has been the effect on them? I saw this site: http://www.hydrogenalpha.com/ which shows that last year there definitely were some solar prominences. A Yahoo! Answer noted that prominences are weaker when there are no sunspots, but they aren't completely absent. John Savard That shows your lack of knowledge of the sun. Proms are NOT flares. You are putting them in the same basket and shouldn't. Flares are NOT CME's either but certainly more closely relatedx due to their common themes of explosive release of energy when magnetic knots break. |

I'm sorry to have commented inaccurately. Of course, what with a "century class" solar minimum, all I can say is that it's a pity we aren't sending someone to Mars now, when we have such a beautiful opportunity to do so with safety more easily. However, it may be that the chance of a solar flare over such a long-duration mission is _still_ not low _enough_ for us to do without a solution to the issue. John Savard |
