If you're a global warming evangelist you might do ok under Hillary.
If you're a planetary scientist she is going to be bad news for you.
If your interest is manned space flight she is going to be REALLY bad
news for you.


That's why I voted for Bush in '04, because during his second term
we'd at least have a fighting chance to get started on some of the
building blocks, Ares and Orion. Hopefully those would survive a
second Billary adminstration, at the very least the Orion and Ares 1.
But if the Clintons are reelected, the rest is out the window.

Mariner, Viking, Voyager) made front-page news around the world. When
was the last time that happened?

It didn't. Neither did the Golden Age of Planetary Exploration. The
1990's were the era of the 'megaproject', which greatly REDUCED the
amount of actual exploration, since if you weren't on one of those few
missions (which occurred with legacy funding - they started earlier
and were just carried through in the 1990's), you simply weren't at
all.

I wonder then if you would be so kind as to provide for me a
count of the currently-operating probes studying bodies other than the
Earth, and to provide a similar count for 12 November 1967, which does
seem to be around the middle of what most people regard as the Space
Race era. I would also greatly appreciate an estimate to the amount
of data being returned daily by such probes, again for 12 November
2007 and 12 November 1967.
