Default Eclipse questions

Anyone getting any jabs for the eclipse? (I mean the people going to Turkey,
not the people staying in the UK. That'd just be silly, wouldn't it?). I
phoned the travel people and they say I don't have to, but others that have
been to Turkey say I should.
But then it's winter and I'm only stopping one night.
Also, I want to get a nice telephoto lens for my old Olympus 35mm SLR
camera, but I can't find the size of the lens! It's an Olympus OM1. I'm sure
all SLRs don't have the same size 'hole' for the lens.
I'm hoping to pick a cheap zoom up from ebay afore I go.

Cheers !

I have a mate who travels to Turkey quite often for work, he has never had
any jabs to go there. May be worth phoning your own doctor, we always ask
ours when we go to a new country for the first time.

Just look for 'Olympus fit'. At least 500mm for your close-ups, wider for
the corona and landscapes. Come to think of it, you need two bodies. I had
for Cornwall. Cloudy, but I was ready.

I went to France and got to see the 1999 one. But it was a VERY tough
choice. I wanted to see it from our shores, and - this sounds a bit silly -
although I saw totality I'm still a little jealous of those that were under
the shadow of the Moon on UK soil.

I'm not too fussed about stunning images, so I'll get a cheap zoom off ebay.
Thanks for the tips ;-)

And I doubt I'll worry about jabs, just for one night stayover.

Yes.

We're going to Libya with Explorers so you might need different jabs.

Given that we'll be based on a ship and given lunchboxes for our
excursions off it, this might be overkill.

Apart from the typhoid, the Hep A, Polio, Diphtheria and Tetnus
protection could be useful elsewhere and even in Europe.

B***** H**** ! :-)

I'm up to date with tetanus but it never occurred to me I might need the
other shots! Are you sure?
Another question. This is my first Mediterranean cruise. What are the
prospects for other astronomical observations - green flash, zodiacal
light etc.?

If you're up-to-date with tetanus, you won't get the diphtheria (all
tetanus boosters now have diphtheria mixed in) and I think the polio is
mixed with the other two (I'm booked for this next week)

My boyfriend went to Morrocco 3 years ago, and had his Tetanus/Diptheria
boosted then, so he doesn't need to go back for these like I do.

I think Explorers did give some health advice, either in the brochure or
in their mailings and recommended Hep A (mebbe with Typhoid)

Another question. This is my first Mediterranean cruise. What are the

I have no idea.
I've not cruised at all before and boyfriend is the serious astronomer...

I attended like a good girl.

Nurse looks in fridge for Tetanus/Diptheria/Polio vaccine.

None there.

Apparently it is on order but unlikely to be available in time for trip.

I wish they'd told me before I left the house. Surgery is only 100 yards
away but I'm in a wheelchair. Any way, attending for an appointment is
always a disruption.

Unimpressed :-(
