* Leonardo Thoughts.
Twittering One wrote: "Why is the fish in the water Swifter than the bird in the air When it ought to be the contrary, Seeing that the water is heavier and thicker Than the air, and the fish is heavier and has smaller wings Than the bird? Lobsters and crabs are empty at the waning Of the moon, for there is little light For them to feed themselves by, And if one brings them a light at night They all hasten to this light." ~ Leonardo [The other one, that gentleman From Vinci], From The Notebooks, Natural History, VI _______ I have seen the trout playing in the mountain steam as it cascades down over the rocks forming deep pools for the fish. Darting lightning fast, they can shoot through the clear water. The big ones stay hidden until some morsel of food drifts downstream, then shooting out of their hiding place, the grab it ahead of the small fry, and immediately are back to their lair. Sometimes they just chase each other around a pool, like elk jousting over territorial or mating rites. At such times as these, they have no interest in the fisherman's lure. The many little waterfalls make sounds like many voices. At times you think you hear laughter therein, and you look around to see who's there. And there are little brown birds about, sitting on the rocks, flying to and fro. If you watch them closely, you will see then dip under the water in search of food. What a curious behavior for a bird! That is why they call them Dippers, or Water Ouzels. When the morning Sun shines down throw the trees onto the fern covered rocky sides of the high walled narrow canyon, one feels that one is in one of natures great cathedrals. One looks up to lofty heights, as the light beams down, and one feels that this is God's own holy place. Nowhere on Earth have I felt closer to heaven than by the side of those cool waters on warm summer days. Double-A |
