Default My First Astro Photos - Comet Holmes20071112_0400hrsa.jpg (0/1)

Hi All,

Comet Holmes was spectacular from my area here along the cost of
Massachusetts. Usually the sea fog/mist from Cape Cod Bay interferes
with amateurs astronomy. My home is about 100 feet from the bay.

After looking at the comet with my binoculars, 10x50, I found it so
beautiful that I got out my Nikon D 200 digital camera and tried to
take what is probably my first astro photos.

Just using a tripod and timed exposures the following two images are
the best of what I got.

I used Photoshop CS2 for some cropping and color adjustment.

They are not as good as some of the images that are posted here but if
anyone has any suggestions for making my future photos better please
email me. I am willing to listen... err... read your suggestions!

Happy Star Hunting,
Bill

Bill,

Neat images! You also got the big star cluster the comet is floating in
front of right now.

BTW, you could take a series of short exposures and add them together
with a (free) program like Registax.

George,

Thank you for your comments. Yes the star cluster was shining right
through the comet cloud. I would have done more photos but we have had
some miserable weather since that night ( or I have been working,
ugh).

Thank you for the tip on Registax. I will go looking for that tonight.

Thank you.

Bill
