Default ASTRO: Mercury & Jupiter on New Year's Eve - Mercury&JupiterThroughTrees1.JPG (0/1)

While I've got a couple of small scopes (a Meade and Cave 8"
Newtonian) and I've done some astrophotography, I rarely get it all
out of the city these days. But I have some decent cameras and
telephoto lenses, and tonight's display of planets was an easy target
from my roof in Southern California.

In all of the star parties I've ever been to I don't recall seeing
Mercury more than once or twice -- two nights ago, with Jupiter
nearby, I saw it as a naked eye object while I was driving on the 101
freeway about a half hour after sunset. Tonight it was just as easy.

Photos taken with a Canon Rebel XTi using a 300mm Tamron telephoto
lens.
