ASTRO: Holmes on the 18th UT
I processed the frames from the 18th many different ways, each shows
something different about the comet. One is shown on my scale image showing its growth. I've attached two others. The first blows out the pseudo nucleus but that helps me show a rather strong tail coming from it and going through "The Blob" which is elongating from its original nearly round shape. Several streamers exit "The Blob" (Where's Steve McQueen?) The other shows that there's a second blob just behind the pseudo nucleus. It was lost in the stretch used for the other shots. It is a very low contrast feature so I used a strong enhancement to bring it out. This guy is very interesting to say the least. All 3 images were made from the same 7 frames, only the curves used were changed. The same RGB frame was used as well. 14" LX200R, f/10, L=4x1', RGB=1x1' all taken binned 3x3 as it is fading, STL-11000XM, Paramount ME tracking the comet not the stars. Images reproduced at 2" per pixel. Rick -- Correct domain name is arvig and it is net not com. Prefix is correct. Third character is a zero rather than a capital "Oh". |
