Progress 16 Raises Space Station's Orbit
Progress 16 Raises Space Station's Orbit
The International Space Station received an orbital boost from the ISS Progress 16 spacecraft Tuesday night. Russian flight controllers fired the Progress' engines at 6:22 p.m. CST Tuesday (0022 GMT Wednesday) to begin a 7-minute, 37-second maneuver that raised the ISS' orbit by 2.1 miles (3.3 kilometers). The reboost placed the Station in the proper orbit needed for the arrival of the ISS Progress 17 spacecraft on March 2. The Station's average altitude is now 223.2 statute miles (359.2 kilometers). The reboost occurred while Expedition 10 Commander Leroy Chiao and Flight Engineer Salizhan Sharipov slept. After waking up Wednesday morning, they began a work schedule that featured Russian science experiments and preparations for Progress 16's departure from the Station, which is slated for Feb. 27. -- -------------- Jacques :-) www.spacepatches.info |
