QUESTION ABOUT 6" SHORT-TUBE TELESCOPES

I see they have a 6" short-tube for sale on Ebay by a company called
Taximarket.

Does anyone know if these telescopes are any good or should I stay away and
look elsewhere?

There have been several threads on S.A.A.on these Ebay Short Tube Newts.

I suggest doing a google search on S.A.A.

Bottomline: Look elsewhere.

Hi:

These are the worst sort of junk imaginable, not even being deserving of the
noun "telescope." The average Jason or Meade from Wal-Mart is considerably
better. Considerably.

What is sad is that all those 6 inch newts are being sold. All those
colors must excite someone. The mirror is a 6 in F5 cheap mirror that
uses a pathetic built in barlow to extend the focal length to F9.2. I
almost always see a bid on those scopes. Wonder if they are fake bids.

I hope so, but I fear not. As for the mirrors, not only are they poorly made
f/5 mirrors, they are poorly made f/5 _spherical_ mirrors!

I have seen 4.5 inch F8 mirrors claiming to be 1/8 wave for 10 bucks.

Been tempted to buy one and just see how bad they are. Even at that
price one can strip the coating and refigure it and recoat and have a
decent little mirror for a relaitvely cheap cost.
