With falcon doing so well why bother spending money on a nasa
dedicated capsule system?'

they will still be documenting their plans when falcon has hauled its
frst crew to ISS

we have little money lets not waste it

Different requirements. Dragon might evolve into a vehicle capable of
long term spaceflight, but Orion is designed from day one for this
capability.

A little competition ought to keep the Orion contractors on their toes.

Don't forget Boeing's commercial space plans either. Bigelow still has
their hopes pinned on that capsule.
