Global Warming on Mars

With Mars being the closest to Earth in 2,000 years, and therefore closest
to the Sun as well, does anyone know if the probes on or around Mars, or any
Earth bound observations are being made to determine climatic changes on
Mars.

Hmm, I wonder what the U.N. should do about it

Also, I see many newspaper reports stating that Mars is the closest it's
been to Earth in 60,000 years. What is the source for their calcuation?
