Well maybe _he's_ not selling them, but imagine what the mirror
from a 10 metre scope atop a mountain could _do_ to something
if it were used to focus sunlight!

r=5m; == A ~= 78.5 m^2
P_incident ~= 1kWm^-2 == P_tot ~= 78.5 kW

That's quite a toaster! It could spoil your whole day if it was pointing
at you!

Crikey - I hope the Americans aren't reading this. They'll all trade
in their goto scopes for this latest gizmo.

Get the Meade with DAGS, the world's first Digital Auto Gotcher
system. No Frenchman will ever kick sand in your face again, no German
will ever get near a deckchair and livel...

Cheers

One question: Which bit of the above (that you quoted!) are you
pretending not to understand?

Best,

Sorry, Chris, but in my book ANY unsolicited email from people I don't

spam, especially if it has a commercial angle of some sort. You may
welcome email from all and sundry so long as it is relevant to your
interests. I'm a more private person, and regard my email addy as for
my use and not for unknown persons to send me commercial or
semicommercial mail to.

I wish his website the absolute best for the future.

I do too.

* fwiw, "know" includes people I know virtually. eg. names I am
familiar with via uksa, clc, ucsm and other sources. On the other
hand, unrequested commercial mail from even these people would solicit
a warning followed if the spam were repeated by a report to their ISP.

Spam stinks, but sorry chaps, I'm simply shocked that you all take a
private e-mail. From a fellow amateur & the provider of a free
astro-kit ads service so seriously. Had there been a grain of
commercialism then by all means cry foul. As loudly as you like! But
this chap is offering a free service that surely benefits us all. I
see nothing for sale except kit by other amateurs. No advertising
whatesoever except for the astro equipment ads themselves. No implied
message that might be construed as remotely commercial. The guy is
putting up a website at (what I presume is) his own expense. Not least
in time. Give him a break. Give me a break! g

I would say that changing emails addresses to include "at" and "dot" ,

to use by simply removing the obvious bits that are added in.

All that is correct, but I think it's missing something: "...in order
that they may respond to the advert." Without that last bit, it is
effectively a statement that anyone anywhere can un-mung it for any
purpose.

I think its
harsh to say that someone has no right to mail you by removing these.

I don't think it's a matter of "rights" but of courtesy. In the same way
that people get (rightly, IMHO) miffed if they advertise in the paper
"Free Ads" and other ad-mags phone up wanting them to place the same
advert in their rag, this is just the modern equivalent of the same
thing (IMHO, of course). Did the guy bother to ask Chris H if he minded
if his resource was troffed for email addresses for targeted spam? (It
may well be that Chris doesn't mind.) Why, if he wanted to be open and
above board, did he not just place an ad on UKAstroAds advertising his
alternative site?

And I still haven't had an answer to the question I asked earlier, which
is what he hoped to gain by spamming by email people who would see his
ad in this NG.

One other thing: Someone has suggested that this is a "new site". It
isn't. It's been around for a couple of years -- it's been in my
bookmarks for about 18 months.

Best,
Stephen

I agree with you . Chris has done a great job over the years and it was bad
form to contact his advertisers in that fasion.
