Default Next 2 pc Orion 80 ED are now tested

Hi Everybody, as promissed I post when I have news.Today I received 2
next Orion 80 ED ( sold again).

How these both ??????????????

1, Colorcorrection: The colorcorrection in this both at my daytime
benchtest ( tonight it seems to be clear so I will also check in the
evening under real sky). Outside-defocused there is deep red rings,
inside-defocused, there is the green ring, same as in other sample.
Infocuse ( sharp point) the airydisk looks rather white soroundet with a
slightly redish first diffraction ring.If you do a very little
defocusing than you can see immediatly the green or reddish color. Both
defocused images show either reddish or greening/yellow fressnell rings,
where a high colorcorrected apo show white fressnelrings.

To show you very accurate how this colorcorrection looks on the high
quality bench, look at this image made from a 3 years old Sky 90.
http://aberrator.astronomy.net/scope...ults_R9001.jpg
The 2 right images showing defocused outside , its excactly same what
the orion show. 2 left images showing on Sky night more purble, which is
in the Orion more deeper red.I am speaking here mainly about the 2 outer
bright rings.
I have in stock only Zeiss, TMB and small high end Tak FC scopes, so I
cannot compare the Orion colorcorrection really against Tak douplet Sky
90 or Tele Vue douplet, but from my memory the Orion is in any case a
bit worser

2, spherical correction.
Scope 1 of today show real good spherical correction similar to the what
the Sky 90 show ( but no zone visible in the Orion )and have a clear
sharp snap in focuse
Scope 2 is same as scope 1 , but show in center a zonal deffect,
somewhat brighter as you see in the Sky 90 image but still have a real
sharp snap in focuse.
Some Points:
- All 5 tested scopes showing very good symmetry no coma, no astigmatism
due lens decentering, where I have a bit other experience with scopes
from a well known 4-lens apomaker
- On the bench is no straylight visible in this 2 babys. Clean smooth
airydisc with 1 ring and with a hint visible the second and hardly
noticable third ring.
- All focusers have more or less image shift. If this scopes would be
equipment with the William Megrez focuser and would have another color
than its grey, I would push them up to nearly the Tele Vue douplet Apo
level.

I will get in a few weeks a duzend more ( preordered again) and if they
show me same quality than we have a small statistic. If the next run
come out in same level as todays 2 samples than we can talk about
consistend quality with a few excaptions. If they come up in same level
as the 2 samples of today , we should not name them anymore poor mans
apos, than they will be able to get here place in the range of a BORG
ED, Vixen ED and TV ED, for shure, at least in terms of optical quality.

Pricewise: this both Orions delivery better performance than they cost,
this is for shure. What I think will be the buyers ? There are aponuts,
who want the best apo quality and best mechanics. They shall not buy,
excapt they need a traveltoy which they can handle rough and dont care
about it. Customers who want a near TV like or real BORG like
Apoperformance shall not think twice , the Orion delivers the better
value, accept you like again the ultralightweight and compactness of the
Borg or the fit and finish on the Tele Vue mechanics.

Now lets see how next 12 samples coming out in a few weeks and we know
more about the consistency at least from my side.

One last word: No I am not a real Orion dealer, but its normal that one
importer sell his goods to the next dealer, so I sell nearly any brands
on the market without beeing a authorized dealer for all of them. The
warrantee is handled here in germany due our laws for 2 years on any
product which goes out of the dealers hand, so there is nothing to
worrie about if you are a reseller or a authorized dealer.

best wishes
Markus
