I have signed up for BOINC, and for einstein@home and for one or two
others of the BOINC projects, but I have not been able to bring up any of these things. BOINC does not come up, einstein@home does not come up. I can get nothing to work. I have run seti at home for several years now, with no problems. I receive work units, my computer processes them and displays the running results, and sends the results to Berkeley. No problems with seti at home. Can anyone help me? Can anyone suggest what I might ber dfoing wrong? Regards, Dan Smith Austin, Texas |

We need a few more clues as to what system you're using and what you've tried doing before anyone can make any guesses for you. Regards, Martin -- ---------- OS? What's that?! Initially had some problems but got it working. First problem was just that I happened to pick a time when the servers were down to install Boinc. The next day, it was working fine. Second problem was my firewall. I'm using Norton. Usually Norton just throws up a dialogue box requesting a new network capable problem to be able to talk on the net and everything works fine afterwards. With Boinc, by the time that Norton requested permission, Boinc was already attempting to download project files and was "stuck". Even after giving permission, it still hanged at "zero percent". Closing Boinc and re-opening it made no difference. Solution was to uninstall it and then disable Norton before re-installing it. After it downloaded project files and started working them, I closed Boinc down and then re-enabled Norton before running Boinc again. Norton asked for permission for Boinc to talk and I gave it. Cycled Boinc one more time just for good measure and haven't had a problem since. Anyway, it may be your firewall. My only "gripe" with Boinc now is that there seems to be some bugs/issues when using one of the project's graphics (i.e., SETI) as a screensaver with password ("Resume to Welcome Screen") enabled with WinXP. Cheers, -Eric |
