Who would have thought that in later years he would be doing commercials for the Trilateral Commission, thereby revealing his true Freemasonic/Bilderberger/Bavarian Illuminati/Bohemian Club/Skull And Bones/One-Worlder colors? Just goes to show you....trust no one....in particular, trust no one with a mustache- they are all trying to hide something, even if it is only their upper lip. Hitler and Stalin had mustaches, and we know all about them, don't we? Captain Kangaroo had a mustache, and Bunny Rabbit had glasses, just like Trotsky. Mr. Green Jeans was involved in agriculture, just like Khrushchev. Mr. Moose? Molotov. Don't even get me started on Tom Terrific as the spirit of Scientific Socialism, or Grandfather Clock as an expression of the inevitability of the historical revolutionary process. Ask not for whom the bell tolls- it may be for Liberty! Let's just say that if certain commie children's shows had had their way, we might all be living on a diet of stone soup and socialism. I realize I drifted a bit from your posting, but the truth MUST BE TOLD! ;-) Pat |

New Apollo 8 documentary on PBS October 31st

I don't remember anything about pre-PBS educational TV, but we had all 3 commercial networks in time for Apollo! In the early-mid 60's; NASA had a aircraft they'd fly in circles, and broadcast some educational TV programs to all us enthralled students in some wide area. Years later, I worked in IRL at LeRC and asked what the large dish on the roof was for. "Nothing" I was told. It sounds right in line with NASA's "all things to all people" style mission creep though, doesn't it? Pat OM |

Westinghouse's Stratovision experiments used a B-29: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/ggninfo/77.htm Years later, the Midwest Program on Airborne Television Instruction (MPATI) was operational from 1961 to 1968: http://www.chicagotelevision.com/MPATI.htm The DC-6s, based at Purdue, which orbited over Indiana broadcasting to schools in several states: http://www.soita.org/MPATI/DC_6.html Can't find anything that connects NASA or Lewis Research Center (now Glenn) to Stratovision or MPATI, though. Either I am not a better googler than David, or there is no connection. I believe MPATI used videotape decks aboard the planes, not a live uplink from the ground. In 1986, Dennis Hopper and Michael J. Pollard starred in *Riders on the Storm*, a cheesy and bizarre film about a B-29 pirate TV station broadcasting anti-government propaganda to a conservative-dominated U.S.A.: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091853/ This is clearly descended from Stratovision. Think of it as bloggers with a bomber. (The user-comments section is much kinder to this movie than it ought to be, though the film is not devoid of merit.) -- "Pethane me photoniko thanato | Bill Higgins skouliki isvolea!" | Fermilab --Archimedes at Syracuse | |
