Default ASTRO: Startrails from Croatia

Hello all,

I think this is my first post here..I've been lurking a while and I see a lot
of great photos from you! I recently got an STL-11000 CCD and have been
shooting the bright and familiar targets for practice. I won't bore you with
those but here's some startrails shot on good old (well, actually brand
new!) film, Fuji Provia 400X and my medium format (6x9 cm) Mamiya camera.
This is a 4 hour exposure with a 100mm lens stopped down to f/8 or so.
There's a bit odf a curve at one end of the startrails, obviously the camera
moved a bit. Anyway, the colors are what I got on the film, I only slightly
adjusted the contrast.

While this exposure was being made I was fiddling woth the CCD and laptop and
a lot of other electronics necessary to make (or ruin) a good CCD image

I hope you like it!

So Fuji is still coming out with new films. I use an STL-11000XM. I
moved to it from film. Quite an experience. At first I was making
every possible mistake and a few that were impossible until I came
along. I know the pain. But it can be done though I still goof when
too tired. But I did that with film as well. Then I didn't know it
until too late but now you at least get instant feedback, no wait to get
home and throw it in the developing tank.

Looks like something hit the tripod at the start of the run. Might have
just sunk into the ground a bit. I've had that happen before. One day
I was taking a one hour shot on film when about 45 minutes in a kid
showed up, leaned against the scope and said "What ya do'in". I then
saved his life by not killing him! But he sure killed the photo. With
10 minute subs I don't lose much when something like that happens now.
Also I don't guide manually any more. That was a pain in the neck and
lower down. It was a dream come true when I got my ST-4 up and working!

You'll love digital once you get over the break-in period. Though I
still know a dark room a lot better than Photoshop.

Rick

Correct domain name is arvig and it is net not com. Prefix is correct.
Third character is a zero rather than a capital "Oh".

I do like digital, but I'll never give up on film. There's no substitute for
the fine grain and saturated colors of diapositives! And the star trails look
soooo much better
