Default Metorites

At one time science denied the existence of meteorites, one
famous scientist said "A stone cannot fall from the sky because
there ARE no stones in the sky" (The James Randi of his generation)

What experiments or evidence eventually convinced science that
meteorites are real.?

Hard (if you know what I mean) evidence. Smoking holes in the ground, with a
hot rock in the center. Lots of eyewitnesses.

BTW, if you ask that famous scientist today, he'll gladly acknowledge that
meteorites are a reality. That's the difference between science (which
includes skeptics) and the loony fringe -- when enough credible evidence is
gatherred, we will change our minds. They (the looneytunes) will *never*
change their minds about their favorite hobbyhorse, no matter *how* much
debunking is done, because to them evidence is largely irrelevant.
