ASTRO: SN 2008ax in Galaxy NGC 4490
A 15:5:5:10 minute LRGB exposure with STL 1301E camera thru a 20-inch F/8 RC
Cass. Seeing was poor, but the sky was pretty transparent. The image was centered around 4:30 UT on March 30, 2008. I measured the SN as red = 13.3 mag and blue = 14.5 magnitude. Still working on data, so no link to this yet. George N |

ASTRO: SN types
The pro's have been changing their minds on what the classification type is for SN 2008ax. The current thinking is that it is a Type Ib. SNs are classified according to their spectra, not what the actual physical object is. I've attached a chart that shows what most astronomers are thinking about type and related object. George N |

George N Looks like it may be slightly brighter in your shot than mine. Seems larger in relation to the star just beyond the galaxy anyway. Nothing but snow and clouds here. Rick -- Correct domain name is arvig and it is net not com. Prefix is correct. Third character is a zero rather than a capital "Oh". |
