Default Do Bears Lose Bone in the Woods?


More seriously, since bed rest is a good analog of zero-G and leads to
similar bone loss to space travelers, why don't bears when they hibernate
suffer bone demineralization? Apparently this is a real question that real
scientists (e.g., the Mayo Clinic) have looked into, but I haven't heard if
NASA has.

From memory, NASA did tests in the '70's/'80's on this subject - people
laying in bed for up to a year.

are different in this regard, and not just about rectal thermometers.
