Do Bears Lose Bone in the Woods?
More seriously, since bed rest is a good analog of zero-G and leads to similar bone loss to space travelers, why don't bears when they hibernate suffer bone demineralization? Apparently this is a real question that real scientists (e.g., the Mayo Clinic) have looked into, but I haven't heard if NASA has. |

From memory, NASA did tests in the '70's/'80's on this subject - people laying in bed for up to a year. -- Alan Erskine alanerskine(at)optusnet.com.au John Howard doesn't speak for this Australian in the Amrosi death sentence - Jail, not death. |

m... Yes, bed rest tests with humans -- and in Russia too. But apparently bears are different in this regard, and not just about rectal thermometers.
