I don't think there is any gold on Mt. Hood. I would have to go as far as the John Day River in eastern Oregon for that. Don't think any bus goes there from here. In the old days they made a lot of money there by hydrolic mining. But that was moutlawed. But panning is still allowed.

Its still to cool to be at the beach. I'm looking for strong magnet, and balancing scale.I have been told they will come in handy.Have rubber gloves and boots.Made a pail with holes to get rid of water and flush sand around.Sand is blackish from iron in it.Also told by this old timer that don't throw quartz away and check it out carefully. Couldn't you teach your new employee to pack your supplies up Mt. Baldy as part of her job duties? Otherwise you might have to get a mule.

A sluice box would be nice.

Cooler today here in Gresham, but the sun still feels warm. Only 75F as of 2:30 PM PDT. Some clouds.

I did some shopping this morning, and when the bus came to take me back home, the driver said he could not leave for a while because he had to wait for his boss to come and take a report. Some woman had stubbed her toe on the bus! Paramedics arrived and asked her if she needed an ambulance to go to the hospital. She declined (always a mistake before first talking to your lawyer). They ended up rendering service by putting a Band-Aid on her toe. After a little while, another bus came and took us all on our way. The joys of public transportation!

This looks like it could be good fishing at ponds near me!

AA Still not warm for the beaches.Have gold on my mind.Quartz comes in lots of varieties and gold is seen inside. So I intend to collect quartz. I do not want to go high up.My mount climbing days are over. Gold has to come up fron deep down, and that means it came up as a liquid.I have an idea say a billion years ago Mt Baldy started to form from volcanic conditions?? Gold is heavy about 3 times heavier than silver. That helps.Gold is malleable, and that helps when tumble down the mountain. AA gold is hiding at the foot of Mt.Baldy and as a kid I loved the game of hid and seek. My best IDEA should do good. TreBert

Sounds like you have the gold fever. Over 150 years since the California gold rush, but some are still trying.

Only 71F here in Gresham as of 1:45 PM, and that is the expected high. Sky is overcast with clouds. The heat wave is over!

Bought some beets and yellow crookneck squash at the Farmers Market outside the library. Healthful country produce.

Mt. Hood looms much larger were I am living now. Many things there are named after it: Mt. Hood Community College, The Hood Theater, and Hood Drive. Some things have been named after the east wind too, such as the East Wind Apartments. The east wind is the dominant wind there in the winter. In summer it is nice though, and stays a little cooler than downtown Portland.

Today I am back over in the Cedar Mills Library, since I don't have my Multnomah County library card yet. After lunch with Kim downtown, I came up here. It is currently 51F here with a slight sprinkling of rain starting. Should be dry again in a couple day.

A few days ago I walked over to the Mt. Hood Community College campus. I spent 2 years in school there. Much has changed, but old memories still remain.

"The years run too short and the days too fast
The things you lean on are the things that don't last
Well it's just now and then my line gets cast into these
Time passages
There's something back here that you left behind
Oh time passages
Buy me a ticket on the last train home tonight

A girl comes towards you
You once used to know
You reach out your hand
But you're all alone, in these
Time passages
I know you're in there, you're just out of sight
Time passages
Buy me a ticket on the last train home tonight" - Al Stewart

At first I felt a little lost, but then I came upon a spot I clearly remembered. It was where I had gone out there and watched a speech by then President Jimmy Carter in the late 70's. He was the first President I had seen in person! A helicopter brought him in, and Iranian students hiding their faces were demonstrating against the Shaw of Iran.

I finally found the lake that they made by damming up the local creek. I once drove a car across that dam! But if I were to try it now, I would run into a fence. I now must give up any hope of wetting a line in that trout stocked pond, as fishing is now limited to those under 17. Well, that's how I always thought it should be.

I found the basketball court with the dome shaped roof. It is a paraboloid shaped roof which gives an interesting echoic effect at its center. They have wisely covered much of the ceiling with acoustic tile.

There used to be tables and chairs on the east side where students could sit. But now it's all basketball floor. That's were I used to sit and talk with Greta and Susan in those pleasant times.

"The day is here,
The time has come
When I go see my darling love.
But why is she not here today
Where she has always been before?
I wait for you,
But you come not. - AA

I went to the corner of Kane Dr. and Stark St. to look for the stone mile post marker for mile 14 from Portland. It was there back in 1969 when I checked. This were set down every mile along Stark about 150 years ago. Stark led to the Stark St. Ferry, which was the only way to cross the Willamette River back then, before they built the bridges in Portland. The Community College has put up a sign at that corner and surrounded it with rocks and other landscaping. But no sign of the historic mile stone. You would think that the administrators of a college of all people would have some respect for history!

AA 3 people want to go with me.Once you mention "GOLD" it starts a rush. I go alone this time.I hope I can stay 3 days.So far I lost 2 days because of M&M. Weather should be nice. No clouds and 82 is my forecast.I think my being a novice makes it more interesting. I have to think like a gold nugget tumbling down the mountain as asking where is the best spot for me to land.Roots of plants? Curve in stream bed? Front of large rock? Front of old tree trunk? Inside sediment rock? Yes I'm taking a hammer.PVC pipe Suction pump(home made) Slush pail,Large drying tray.Heavy jeans.Storage jar.Stream chair, and beer back-pack. See on Monday if I can ride up to Baldy peak. Will take great pictures, and its a good thing I bought that nice Cannon camera. Will write short story."Baldy viewed by a Flat Lander" I went for the gold, but found nature to behold. TreBert

It would be good to pan near a county general store to keep you supplied with beer and ice to keep it cold. Working hard in the gold fields can make you mighty thirsty.

Partly sunny with clouds here in Gresham. As of 11:30 AM PDT it is only 71F. Expected high 80F.

I wrote a story about smelt dipping one time and submitted it to "Fur, Fish, Game Magazine". They would have bought it except I didn't have pictures to go with it. The Sandy River used to be good for that. But now it appears that smelt dipping has been banned in all inland streams.
