Hi Steve,

You are kind of in the middle of quite a few non-local AS where you are.

South you have York AS, Harrogate AS, and Leeds AS, east you have
Scarborough & Rydale AS, North you have Cleavland & Darlington AS, but I
can't think of one really local to you. Maybe it's a sign for you to start
a new one :-).

York AS have a big public Star Party at the top of Sutton Bank, in the
visitor's car park, on Saturday the 15th of December if you feel like a
drive? 6:30pm onwards.

Very best wishes and clear, dark skies.

Hi Steve,

here is a list of Yorkshire Societies from the Federation of
Astronomical Socieites website:

Yorkshire - East

* Blackburn Leisure, Astronomy Section
* East Riding Astronomers
* Hull & East Riding AS

Yorkshire - North

* Harrogate AS
* Scarborough & Ryedale AS
* Whitby & District AS

Yorkshire - South

* Mexborough & Swinton AS
* Sheffield AS

Yorkshire - West

* Batley and Spenborough AS
* Bradford AS
* Hebden Bridge AS
* Huddersfield A & Ph Soc
* Leeds AS
* West Yorkshire AS

There used to be a society in Skipton too, but they left the
Federation when they became very small, but they may still be running.
I might be able to find a contact if of interest.

The Federation has a booklet about starting a society - if of interest
send me a pm and i will send to you.

Best regards,

Callum

Is there any particular reason for having the text on that page
unreadably small and not resizable by IE6 Zoom or Ctrl-Mousewheel?

Or for not spell-checking it? a Society should be able to spell its own
name and the location of its recent AGM correctly every time.

The Federation of Astronmical Societies aims to be a body of societies

It needs one of these, too : ' .

Any special reason you need IE6 ?
It is ok and resizable in Firefox

yada yadayada, _get_a_life_, it was all perfectly unnerstannable,
I suggest you decamp to an engleesh language newsgroup.

It is claptrap like your funnelweb spider activities that contribute
to the death of usnet groups like thisun.

But highly unpolished. If you want to create a good impression and
persuade people to take you seriously, presentation is important,
whether online or off.

Go for it Steve
You've got some excellent locations to exclude any extraneous light...
You may even be able to start competing with Keilder for a star
party

Nick in Northallerton - with no kit...
