Hello,

My budget is a little tight so I have been looking at these two scopes.

Does anyone have anything to add?

Dave

Dave,

If you want an automatic (GOTO) scope, take a pass on the LXD55 and consider
the slightly more expensive but similar Celestron version. If you want a
Dob, take a look at the Orion Dobs...also available with digital setting
circles at very low cost.

You can buy the 16" Dob mirror set from Meade for about $800 plus shipping
and buy a Dob Kit or have it done for you ... Might be the way to go ...

Pay attention to the F ratios. The LXD55SN is a wide field telescope, so
planetary viewing requires a very high power eyepiece, 5mm and below.
Best all around telesope is an 8 to 10 inch Schmidt Cass, if you can afford
it. The F ratios are more moderate.
