Default HiDef video straigth from Mars or Jupiter?

NASA will be testing laser communications for interplanetary probes in
the coming years. This about a 7 years after NASA originally came up
with the idea but had to cancel the plan due to budget constrants.

After seeing the beautiful HD video pictures coming of the Japanese
Moon probe I suggested that NASA mandate for a HD video camera to be
present on every probe regardless of its scientific value. Now with
laser communications we might even be able to have a 'live' HD video
feed from probes around Mars and even Jupiter / Saturn. That would be
sight to behold!

Because of these developments SETI seems more and more a futile
exercise. If we as a species are slowly moving towards digital
transmission and are now switching to optical transmission than what
are the chances of us listening in on alien radio broadcasts?
Nada...zero I would say.
