Aether or whatever
Researcher a écrit :
There is no end to an Euclidean straight line and Ether and therefore Universe is limitless. Take your "therefore" back. Euclidian space is limitless but what tells you that Universe is an euclidian space, apart from intuition ? I assisted to a very nice conference where the Universe was presented as having a nice finite topology (as a sperical topology) and was by consequence finite. You can't tell if the Universe has a spherical (finite) or an euclidian (infinite) topology or something else. My personal favorite topology for the universe comes from this conference, it was a Poincaré's dodecahedra topology. |

My personal favorite topology for the universe comes from this conference, it was a Poincaré's dodecahedra topology. A lot of people like that one. But I thought it had run up against some problems -- IIRC it's possible to predict, based on (?? anisotropies in the CMBR or some such ??) just how large the universe must be if it's dodecahedral, and therefore how far out you would need to look to start seeing the same thing in opposite sides of the sky ... and we've passed that point with Hubble photos of the last couple years, and have not seen the predicted duplication. Corrections on this one more than welcome, of course! -- Nospam becomes physicsinsights to fix the email I can be also contacted through http://www.physicsinsights.org |

A nice comment which I will reply after thinking more about it.
