Default Space Cruiser Part 1: APR Extra

Well, here's the first part (of at least 3) on the SRI Space Cruiser.
This covers the early design development. The article is a little
rushed, for what I presume are obvious reasons...

The initial design looked astonishingly uncomfortable.

Part 2 will come after the new year sometime.

It's in the "Spacecraft" section.

It does now, but not when I wrote that- did the server have to update?
Anyway, thanks for putting that stuff up- I've been wanting to find out
more about this gizmo since it showed up in the book "Advanced
Technology Warfare" back in 1985.

Well, I can see why the military liked it; this looks like something
straight out of a 1950's space comic:

This would be exactly what they would picture a space fighter looking like.
I like the idea of having the pilot take the ascent G's feet-first- this
is probably how aneurysms occur.

Delurking, but what's the machine half out of the picture at upper left?

I liked the part about the pilot's head being exposed to space. Like
a space-going WWI biplane. You'd think they'd be a little bit
concerned about micro-sized impacts though.
