Default How Tall is Your Pier?

(And how tall are you, and what size 'scope is on your pier?)

I'm going to install a temporary pier (pressure-treated 6x6, about 48
inches deep) on which I'll place a wedge (slightly modified Meade,
capable of holding either my 8" Meade or my Questar Duplex), and I need
a starting point. TIA.

Mine's 35.4" however many might find that a bit tall.

My suggestion is tha you set up your existing tripod with the modified
wedge atop and then adjust the height till it's comfortable with both
scopes. Then measure the vertical drop from the base of the wedge. That
will give you an 'ideal' height.

I've been told that girth is more important than height. Although I
guess a large rigid pier less important to the amateurs than it is to
people who pursue the hobby in a more professional capacity.
