What's in this photo?

This doesn't have much to do with astronomy. It probably
should go in some discussion group dealing with arial photo
interpretation...

The Astronomy Picture of the Day for June 27 of this year:

is a photo of "SpaceShipOne" -- An experimental spacecraft
built by Burt Rutan and his company, Scaled Composites. On
the ground far below it are rows of what appear to be posts,
maybe 30 or 40 feet tall. You'll need to look at the large
image (3008 x 2000 pixels, 2,860 KB) to see them clearly.
What the heck are they?

Wind turbines.

Or cracks in the Earth's crust left from the last passage of P-X.

Windmills. On some of the nearer ones you can see the blades.

If you look to the separated small row on the right side of the picture,
somewhat above the bottom, you can see the blades.

Most of the wind turbines here around in the Netherlands vary from 100 feet
without blades to a few standing over 250 feet without blades. I don't know
how big the lot on the picture are, but given the buildings in front I
guess they stand well over 120 feet.

top of the Tehachapi pass, which is a few miles west of the Mojave
(CA) airport where Rutan's company is based.

Neato! How tall are the things actually? Enormously taller than
my timid guess of 30 or 40 feet? Not counting blade length...
