MEDIA ADVISORY: M06-074

NASA'S CLOUDSAT AND CALIPSO LAUNCH SCRUBBED

NASA's CloudSat and CALIPSO (Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared
Pathfinder Satellite Observations) launch from Vandenberg Air Force
Base, Calif., was scrubbed Tuesday shortly before 6 a.m. EDT due to
higher than allowable upper level wind conditions.

The next launch attempt is tentatively set for Wednesday, April 26, at
6:02 a.m. EDT, pending availability of all required Western Test
Range assets. Launch commentary on NASA TV starts at 4 a.m. EDT.

Weather is a concern for Wednesday's launch attempt. The forecast
calls for a 40 percent probability of acceptable weather conditions.
The primary concerns are for thick clouds, higher than allowable
winds, rain showers and isolated thunderstorms.

Media covering the launch on Wednesday should meet at the Vandenberg
main gate at 5 a.m. EDT (2 a.m. PDT) for escort to the press site.
For media launch accreditation call Staff Sgt. Allen Puckett at (805)
606-3595 at the 30th Space Wing Public Affairs Office.

A recorded CloudSat and CALIPSO launch status update is available at:
(805) 734-2693.
