Radio NZ,10th Solar System Planet.

Thank you for interview Radio NZ Mon 2004-02-23rd 8;50 am
concerning our Solar system may have a 10th planet, Richard Hall.

Who discovered the possible 10th planet? When?
Does it have a /proposed name./?

Its distance from Sun is 47 Astronomical Units, Earth=1, :
what is planet Neptune's average distance?
What is Titius-Bode's law of planetary distances?

What is the period of planet X?.
Can we see it? naked eye binocs or 200 inch Hale telescope?
Hubble Space telescope?
What constellation is it in?? Does it move?
What is a map of the Solar System?
Approximately increasing concentric circles.

What is the size of Planet X? 1600 km diameter. About 2-thirds
of Pluto or 1-fifth of Earth, or Moon is 2000 km. Would it be
the smallest known planet? Various size spheres, picture.
Query (Gr. Blow.) Minor planets are distorted lumps or
potato cigar shape.
Asteroids is minor planet.

Discovered by deep sky survey photography plates.
Suppose ice body Albedo reflectivity similar to ice.

There are expected thousand or 10 millions comets, planets, etc.
in Kuiper belt astronomer. Composition of planets changes as we
travel farther out from Sun.

What is Planet X orbit? Looking in plane of solar system or
Earth's orbit.
Can you do a travelling salesman closed tour of the solar system
in under 12 hours before? Laser beam bounce speed of light.
Shine torch at the Sun.

kind Regards
yours sincerely,

/ Don S. McDonald (Wellington, New Zealand)

It's Chyron (or similar)....reckoned to be little more than a very large
snowball.....and there is a debate as to whether it is a planet, a moon or
a large asteroid.....because there are a couple of moons elsewhere in the
solar system that are larger than this "planet".

I thought Charon was Pluto's moon, and understood that any 10th planet was
going to be called Persephone...

Yes, but generally spelt Chiron (if you want to do a search).

There was a good few years ago a suggestion that there was a 10th
planet closer to the Sun than Mercury. IIRC they were planning to call
it Vulcan. That theory seems to have disappeared; but I heard a talk on
it at the time by a visiting astronomer who mentioned the same
definitional debate. The supposed body was far smaller than any known
planet and would be an asteroid except it wasn't where asteroids
normally are, between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.

Suggestions from the audience included "asteroidoid" and "planette".

Whatever happened to "Vulcan"?

Oh yes, and Daffy Duck visited the *real* planet X some time in the 24½
century. Apparently, it is the home of the shaving cream atom...

Who discovered the possible 10th planet?

Nancy Lieder, who calls it Planet X. In fact, she discovered it over and over
each time it didn't show up where she said the Zetas told her it would be.

It's Chyron

Chiron was discovered several years ago. This new one is more recent - got to
www.skyandtelescope.com for info.

Charon is Pluto's Moon. Chiron is another large, distant asteroid, or possibly
comet.
