David: I suggest you go to the Amazon site, and list books by Patrick Moore.

I recommend the BACKYARD ASTRONOMER'S GUIDE (cover is black with Andromeda
Galaxy on front, hardbound) and/or THE NEW ASTRONOMER (cover is blue
paperback) Also, to get ahead on uncoming events, you could buy CELESTIAL
DELIGHTS (black cover, paperback). This one tells of all the solar system
events with maps of all upcoming solar and lunar eclipses, planetary
conjuctions and oppositions. Also the transits of Venus in 2004 and 2012.
CELESTIAL DELIGHTS covers the years 2003 - 2010.
