Default Milky Way Merging with Andromeda

It will be a catastrophe. Only a very few stars will collide.(no big
deal) However they are very big galaxies. They both have huge black
holes. Its their gravitational forces that will create great havoc

I don't think it's the gravity of the black holes that dominates the
galaxies. Unless Andromeda's black hole came near us, I don't think
it would cause us a problem. But now one knows for sure what kind of
radiation would be caused by to black holes merging. But some of the
gamma ray bursts might come from such events. That radiation might
sterilize the galaxy!

Double-A Easy to theorise what you are saying. "Great radiation could
result". My universe picture scrape book shows a head on collision of
two galaxies.. Have another picture signified as NGC4676 its a pair of
galaxies as they are starting to merge.into one giant galaxy. It shows a
lot of radiation like you posted. Looking at this picture begs the
question is this gravity tug of war effecting their rotation.. I wonder
in its history if the Milky Way got bigger merging with other galaxies.
Maybe when stuff was closer together say 9 billion years ago merging
galaxies were very common.? Maybe their mutual nebulas 9 billion years
ago enhanced star formation? bert

I believe the Milky way has merged with smaller gallaxies and I think
is pulling in some small ones right now.

Some scientists think two galaxies are so empty that they would just pass
through
each other hardly noticing one another.

Well, maybe if there is a mega black hole in the center of each galaxy whose
pull is holding the whole entire galaxy together....maybe the black hole of
each galaxy would battle it out with one another.
