Default DARWIN'S LAST WORDS-- New Quiz

As part of a new educational series, we present

===================================

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

..====================================

See if you can select the correct Last Words
that were uttered by some of the most famous
historical figures before taking their dying breath.

The series will continue daily every Thursday through
Feb. 30 (except Christmas which also is a Thursday
and hardly anybody works).

SELF-TEST

(Correct answer below.)
Peeking Not Allowed

CHARLES DARWIN

( ) This tastes like arsenic.

( ) I'll be out of bed in no time.

( ) Somebody -- QUICK! -- get my beard out of my mouth.

( ) Good God! Is that really YOU?

( ) For the thousandth time, you know I can't eat unripe fruit.

( ) What a revolting development this is!

( ) This new medicine actually tastes delicious.

( ) Good Golly, Miss Molly!

( ) That laxitive will have me feeling better in no time.

( ) Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle.
..
( ) Hmmm! The hospital bill. I'm SURE it can't be much.

SEE, you tried to peek.
But you're in for a surprise. The correct
answer ain't here. It'll appear with the next
test tomorrow.

(You can't trust nobody these days!)

YERKES CONFIRMS SPECIMEN IS INDEED BONE
One of the specimens was positively identified as petrified bone
by the Yerkes Regional Primate Research Center at Emory
University in Atlanta, Ga., which bone expert Wilton Krogman
described as "the most prestigious institution of its kind in the
world."

Jeremy Dahl, one of its bone experts who examined and tested
it, even put it in writing and signed his name, also making
a drawing of the specimen that he had examined and tested..

RAYMOND DART IMPRESSED
The late, great Raymond Dart, MD., examined some of the specimens
after Krogman informed him about them. This photo shows Dart holding
what Krogman identified as a calvarium, a human cranium with the eye
sockets broken off.

RAYMOND DART'S LETTER
28 October, 1983
Dear Mr. Conrad:

This is being written as a follow-up to our meeting here in
Philadelphia on Saturday, Oct. 15, during which I had the
opportunity to examine many of the rock-like objects you
had discovered in the coal fields of Pennsylvania, near
Shenandoah.
In my opinion, the vast majority bear the contour of bone
and well may be petrified bone.

I was particularly intrigued by one of your specimens which
I agree bears a distinct resemblance to a dainosaur head
or a hominid skullcap, heavily petrified.

Based on our vast ignorance about volcanology, as regards
both anatomy and anthropology, I am of the opinion that your
findings definitely warrant intense investigation by that subject's
foremost experts, especially here in America where so many
volcanic disturbances occur even today.
Yours sincerely,
Raymond A. Dart (signed)

He's employing the same logic that he uses to prove Man is as old as
coal. Next thing, you'll see him post a fuzzy jpeg of 'every day is a
Thursday' with a soggy cigarette packet next to it as evidence.

...and just like his rocks, he'll be unable to either prove or explain
Darwin's last words, whatever he claims them to be.

It's a shame he doesn't live near Miami South Beach, I can just see
him walking up to some topless female, leaning his grubby cigarette
packet against her and mumbling something about looking as old as coal
as he snaps a few pictures. Hmmm. On reflection, I think his time
would indeed be better spent on the beach than in the hills, his
website would certainly get more hits.
