ASTRO: M-61 and Supernova 1999gn
M-61 has been the host of supernovae in 1926, 1961, 1964, and 1999. Here's
my image of SN 1999gn taken at 5:50UT on April 1, 2000 using our old ST-6 CCD camera. SN 1999gn was a pretty bright Type II that was bright enough to see visually in large backyard scopes. George N |

ASTRO: M-61 and Supernova 1999gn
"Richard Crisp" wrote ... does the GN stand for George Normandin :-) Alas, I'm afraid not! I did visually observe a SN in M-51 just about the time everyone else discovered it. I noted it in my log as a possible SN and forgot about it for a few days until the 'big news' came out. I *will* probably discover the asteroid that wipes us all out a week later......... ....but, ya know, I've always liked SN 1999gn for some reason...... George N |
