It's clear that lots of internet savvy people would like to see more 'real' astronomy on the show. However, I'm sure that there are quite a lot that don't actually do astronomy who like to watch the interviews. A 2 hour monthly programme - that's what's needed ;-) ! Why not two programmes? One space-sciencey with the interviews about space probes etc. and one about amateur observation (with the odd trip to huge professional scopes for a bit of porn!). Sounds good to me. Can we have them both 2 hours monthly? grim |

... I totally agree with those who prefer to see 'real' astronomy in the course of the show. This weeks episode, and the recent one from Chile with Chris Lintott and Damian Peach, really gave a sense of what 'hands on' amateur astronomy is all about. Is Chris the one who's head is always rocking backwards and forwards? grim |

30 minutes once a week would be better. That would mean missing less as a
result of missing a given number of programmes a year. "Pete Lawrence" wrote in message ... It must be really difficult to decide what to show. The amount of material that was collected was vast and they did a fantastic job of reducing it into 30 mins. Have one every night and I can sell my bloody telescope. Actually had 3 glorious hours under the stars last night - naked eye and bins. First decent chance for a dog's age - and it took me by surprise. Cheers Martin -- Martin Frey http://www.hadastro.org.uk N 51 02 E 0 47 |

"Geoff Smith" wrote in message Glad you enjoyed it. It was certainly good fun being there :-) Speaking as a sub-amateur astronomer I'm another one :-) fascinated but no telescope and don't know what I'm looking at half the time anyway) Fascinated, have telescope but usually wander about with the dog, just looking with the naked eye enjoying working out what is what. I caught the repeat on BBC4 and really enjoyed it. Me too, after the family had to put up with a post-it note stuck to the screen for a few days so I didn't miss it! Great to see real people and to put some faces to the names. Very inspiring, really made me want to get the telescope out again, but the cloud machine seems to be out of order atm.. -- Holly, in France Holiday home in Dordogne http://la-plaine.chez.tiscali.fr |

I have a very laid back approach to astronomy - literally in fact, on a garden lounger when there's a meteor shower or similar As you say, much pleasure to be gained from just looking up at the night sky. -- Anita Evans North Cumbria (please reply to ) |

There are no hard and fast rules to enjoying astronomy. Each to his/her own I say. As long as there's a mutual appreciation of what's out there and a will to help each other then the subject will continue to thrive. -- Pete http://www.digitalsky.org.uk Global Projects - http://www.globalobservers.net |
