It is the first sign of polar night in a location which must be the most interesting in terms of observational astronomy.

With the moon largely on the sunlit face of the Earth and darkness firmly established, the South pole latitude opens up a constant vista of the celestial arena , at least weather permitting.

Isn't it time to drop the 'tilting' Earth and adopt the principles of a single surface rotation of the entire planet due solely to its orbital motion, this rotation runs parallel to the orbital plane and is quite slow and uneven.
