Default Crew Begins Week With Science Experiments

New Workweek Begins Aboard the International Space Station

Science experiments garnered the attention of Expedition 10 Commander Leroy
Chiao and Flight Engineer Salizhan Sharipov on Monday as they began a new
workweek aboard the International Space Station. Beginning before breakfast,
the crewmembers worked with biomedical experiments, including a Russian
experiment studying changes in the human body during space flight. For this
investigation, they recorded their body mass and calf measurements.
In preparation for this week's Active Rack Isolation System activities,
Chiao supported a ground-commanded power-up of Express Rack 3 by activating
the rack's laptop computer for an initial checkout. Meanwhile, Sharipov
installed and activated a new Russian spectrometer instrument in the DC1
docking compartment as a test for science activities planned for next year.
In other activities, the crewmembers reconfigured computers on the Station
and took routine water samples. They also conducted their daily exercise
regimen and maintained ISS systems.
