ups.com... Wondering if anyone has a decent way to use solar filters with the Canon 10x30IS binoculars, Thanks. I just cut out a rectangular piece of Baader film and secure it over the objectives with a rubber band. |

Then some dopey car wash guy threw the thing out. Make a little box out of cereal-box material, just big enough to hold the end of the binos. At one end, cut out the shape of the binocular objective, so you can slide the box snugly over the binos. At the opposite end, cut out one or two little windows matching the objectives and cover them with Baader solar film. If that doesn't make sense, let me know, and I'll e-mail you a photo. - Tony Flanders |

I cut out two pieces of board, like so: +-------------+ | | | | | | +------+.............+------+ | .+-----------+. | | .| OPEN |. | | .+-----------+. | +------+.............+------+ | | | | | | +-------------+ +-------------+ |+-----------+| || OPEN || |+-----------+| +-------------+ The Baader film is placed on top of the first piece, covering the OPEN hole, then the second piece is placed on top of *that*, and secured. The whole assembly is then folded along the dots into a box, which is held onto the binoculars by a taut rubber band. -- Brian Tung The Astronomy Corner at http://astro.isi.edu/ Unofficial C5+ Home Page at http://astro.isi.edu/c5plus/ The PleiadAtlas Home Page at http://astro.isi.edu/pleiadatlas/ My Own Personal FAQ (SAA) at http://astro.isi.edu/reference/faq.html |
