Default Astroscan Base

Greetings, all!
Does anyone have an Astroscan base lying around that they don't
want? Perhaps from a broken scope?

I have an Astroscan, but no base or shoulderstrap. Edmund will sell
me one for about 40 or 50 dollars, but that's alot right now for a
very occasional activity.

Please answer to this group, and I'll contact you from there.

Thanks, Bill Yellin.

Default Astroscan Base

A guy in our club uses the white pvc base for a toilet (I think where the
wax gasket goes) as an Astroscan base. He claims it works well.

The 3 support pads for this scope are set at about 6.75" in diameter. The
bottom of the base is 10.5" in diameter. I suspect anything close in size would
work, whether a pvc fixture or made from wood

As a footnote: any scope is only as good as it's mount, so to speak.
Astroscan's are sold as table top scopes, but most tables actually make pretty
bad mounts. If you do make a base for one, consider perhaps making it a three
legged one. A tripod.

I built a handy one from PVC pipe and fittings in 1990 or so. Design
was from one of the mags. I used some glue-on felt from hobby shop to
make the motion smooth. That improvised tripod made for a quick setup.

Thanks, fellas - The dog dish is a good solution. I'll get one, and I
appreciate it.

If anyone comes up with a real one, I'd still be interested, though.

I have a tripod, but there's the convenience of just walking up and
plopping it down to look at the moon, etc.

Dog dish. What a hoot!
Sounds like it should work though.
