Default Mercury/Venus, a stuffed bird(?) and a new form of light pollution...

I'm sure that bird *is* stuffed - it never seems to move!

No sign of Saturn in the horizon hugging murk.

Glad I am not the only one who can't pick up Saturn. Conditions were pretty
good here yesterday and using 10x50s I managed to track Venus and Mercury
setting over the Solway right the way down until they disappeared behind
the distant mountains. (I will have to get one of these fancy DSLRs and
show you what a real sunset looks like ;-) Not a sign of Saturn though.

At least you guys got *something*. :-)

We've been in drought for months, and the rains came over the past
week. Yesterday was bucketing down at sunset.

I shouldn't complain. we really *do* need the rain.

Thanks for the heads up, Pete! I saw your pics and ran out here in
western Iowa, USA almost exactly 5 hours later. (9:30pm CDT 27th, 2:30
UT 28th) and saw little mercury just a tad below being horizonal with
Venus. Saturn was lost behind some clouds.

I just went out with my 10x50 binos and Venus is night and bright, just to
it's left is Mercury and way below and to the right is Saturn, maybe one
more night for saturn and then it'll be gone.

This from Rosamond in the High Mojave Desert.

Nice Pete - no Saturn from sea-horizon-less Surrey but fair view between the neighbours houses posted at http://home.freeuk.com/m.gavin/conjunct.htm [plug/plug]! Think those pics that do show Saturn have be Photoshop tweaked but we'd never do that would we Pete!

BTW - saw choppers out from Portsmouth do from Littlehampton beach yesterday afternoon - did wave but you didn't respond:-}

Saturn just wasn't there for me. I could possibly have picked it up a
bit earlier (before it hit the bank of crud on the horizon) but the
sky would probably have been just too bright.

Nice - reminds me of my first flat strangely enough. In particular
the end of the gutters in silhouette looked like pigs in profile.
You've got two there arguing about which is going to snuffle those
tasty planets ;-)

The UK seemed pretty poor for Saturn spotting last night. The horizon
murk was thick and unforgiving. I measured where Saturn should have
been on my images but it just wasn't picked up. Although I'm happy to
tweak contrast/brightness/levels etc. - there was nothing there to
bring out!

BTW - saw choppers out from Portsmouth do from Littlehampton beach
yesterday afternoon - did wave but you didn't respond:-}

Yes I did!

Nice one Peter. I was watching it with Bins and thinking you'd have it
snapped! I couldn't make Saturn out in the beautiful murk either!
