Why Pacific Islands Disappear
This is dedicated to Palsing, who is under the misguided conception that
Pacific Islands disappear because of rising sea levels. I would like to set this misconception straight. It appears that you have never read James Michener's book "Hawaii" ( I read it once in the 80s and then again last year). If you had, you would understand the real cause and I wouldn't have to write this. Go to Google Maps and scroll to the North Pacific. Then Click on Satellite Vew. You should see present day Hawaii and a whole string of mostly submerged islands stretching to the North-West. You see, there is a "Hot Spot" right under Hawaii, which is in the Earth's mantle and is stationary. The Earth's crust, in this instance in the form of the Pacific Plate, very slowly moves over the hot spot, towards Japan. The speed of the movement is about as fast as your finger nails grow. As the plate crosses over the hot spot, magma wells up, creates volcanoes, which eventually break the water's surface and form islands, like Hawaii and other other 4 or 5 tourist traps. As the Pacific plate moves over the hot spot at glacial speed, the volcanic activity slows and eventually ceases entirely. The islands continue to drift to the North West and wind and water erosion begin to take their toll. They slowly shrink, turn into atolls Midway being an example of a bigger island that is still inhabitable in atoll form, and eventually subside below the Pacific surface. You can follow the trail on the Google Maps Satellite View. The facts don't lie. In a million years present day Hawaii will be a distant memory, but a batch of new volcanic islands will have taken its place, with similar flora and fauna as well as boat loads of tourists. I say boatloads, because the communist/socialist regime of the US will have banned all air travel and I guess the tourists are required to row the boat across the Pacific. Please don't thank me for posting this ... after all, it's "Educate a Dummy" day |

You are really crappy at doing research, aren't you,,, |

I hoped you'd could figure out for yourself that the Earth's many tectonic plated don't all move in the same direction. I had furthermore hoped that you would go to those crappy little islands of your previous post, use the same Google Earth/Satellite View and see if there is a trail of already submerged islands ... but then, by your own admission, you operate on half a brain ...
