No more MAGIC than is required for a colony of 2,000 people in the first place. You'd need a *very* big station to be self-sustaining for that many people. Unproven. Biosphere 2 (which didn't quite work, they had to pump in oxygen after a year or so) was enormous and that was to support fewer than a dozen people. B2 didn't work because far more attention was paid to ecological mysticism than to science and engineering. I'd not use it as 'proof' of anything one way or another. D. -- Touch-twice life. Eat. Unproven. How do you propose to make food from waste without plants? You don't need that many plants. 30 or so square meters of plant growth area per person should do the job. There are plenty of studies of Controlled Ecological Life Support Systems (CELSS) done by NASA, including some "locked the researcher in the sealed habitat with the plants for several months" tests done back in the early 90s (and since then, on and off). No, not referring to Biosphere-2, these were smaller scale high efficiency NASA projects. Google on CELSS for more references than anyone could reasonably summarize... -george william herbert |

But several studies by CSICOP suggest strongly that the apparent correlation isn't supported by evidence. But several other such studies do; further, it is the subject of LOTS of research, studies done and re-done over and over again. That suggests a correlation, No. Having a lot of studies indicates a lot of interest, not a correlation. Studies showing correlation indicate correlation, Derek. (AA Institute) made the phosphor on my monitor glow in such a way as to indicate that: You didn't spot the three dots I put after I wrote the word "heartless"; that means I was joking. Are you inventing new words? There's this new invention called a dictionary. You might want to familiarize yourself with it, so you don't make a fool of yourself on Usenet. But, hey, I'll help you out. Google is your friend, too. http://webster.commnet.edu/grammar/marks/ellipsis.htm And note that none of the standard uses are an indication of humor, weak or otherwise. |
