Default ASTRO: UGC 4305

UGC 4305 - Holmberg II
Ursa Major
Penryn, California
January 2009
FS-128 (ag, St-4)
ST-2000XM LRGB 10 minutes subs

Part of the M 81 group of galaxies, UGC 4305 is classified as Ibm
(irregular, barred, magellanic) and is undergoing almost continuous
star burst activity.

This galaxy contains a variable (variable both on year and day
time-scales) intense x-ray point source and is one of the brightest
x-ray sources known. Studies using the Rosat observatory were
inconclusive as to the origin of the source, the best fit being either
a binary x-ray source or a black hole candidate source. The source is
located in the loop of material at the bottom of the image. ( Zezas,
et.al.-1999 ).

Distance is 11 Mly.

I thought that looked familiar. Arp 268. I had it under Holmberg II.
Didn't recognize it under the UGC label. Too many galaxy catalogs!

I do need to revisit my processing. It was one of the earlier Arp's I
processed. I've learned a lot since. It came out way too harsh. Yours
is better processed. It is an interesting mash-up of a galaxy.

Correct domain name is arvig and it is net not com. Prefix is correct.
Third character is a zero rather than a capital "Oh".

Great shooting Glen. Of course I know the "Holmberg" galaxy right next to
M81, but I can't remember any other pictures of this one.
