Default 8" f/8 Teeters Dob

Got my 8" Teeters today! This is another super well made scope, with Royce
optics. The moon and deepsky objects appear very sharp and show excellent
contrast, it's in the 40's with fast falling temps, so this is not the best
nite to test optics.
The good thing about this is, i can set it up in two trips, take out the rocker
box, then carry out the complete UTA and mirror box without breaking my back!

Another plus being f/8 is no more coma, and collimation is a snap, from what i
can tell this scope is very well built and has excellent optics, if anyone
would like a longer focus Dob, just give Rob a call at Teeters, he will build
you a fine scope!!!

Chas,

This sounds like a sweet scope. I've been seriously considering an 8"
f/7 or f/8. I have a 6" f/8 which I really enjoy. As you note, at f/8
there's good performance with a wide variety of eyepieces and
collimation is a no brainer.
Have fun and give us some planetary reports!

Glad to hear the good news. I've got a bit of a wait till I return to
the USA before I can buy a nice scope. I'm leaning towards teeters and
a few other RF Royce optics based truss scopes. So let us know how it
performs please. Good hunting!

Clyde, I've seen/used this scope and it's a beaut!

Ed was nuts for parting with it. (Course, I was probably nuts for
parting with it's big sister.)

Ed - so what are you shopping? And will you have it in time to get
together this spring?

Yeah, I was nuts.

As I am favored with very dark but somewhat unsteady skies I'm going to my
5" & 6" scopes for planetary and portability and try to find something a tad
bigger and faster for deep sky. I'm thinking a 10"-12.5" f5-6 dob.

Tom,

Oh yeah, that's right, you let the big girl go didn't you? But you're
still quite well set if I do say so myself!

Clear skies,

Chas, having seen both myself, personally, I'd keep the 8". IMO, the
10" was a magnitude of order larger and just not worth that much fuss
for a 10" - My 18" is only about 2" taller than that 10" was. - YMMV
of course.

Yah, but picked up an even bigger girl - 15" then 18".

Overall, I'm pretty happy with what I've got, but I see so much stuff
that I'm all too tempted to pick out the nicer items as they come my
way. I think the WO ED Triplet is going to be a case in point.

I just can't believe they sell this scope for $800. It's a real
beauty.

Hey Ed - go for the 18" scope - but get a lightweight one like
Obsession, T-scope Ultralight or Plettstone. You got the skies for it
- ferget messin around with this little stuff....
