Default Fermi Paradox

If "they" are out there, why are "they" not here yet?

Well, consider this. What if "they" are "us"? At least in our part of the
universe?

The universe is still very young, just a few billion years old and still
trillions of years to go to the Big Cruch or the Cold Death or whatever.
And we're here already!

So give those green or grey creatures a break please and give them the time
to develop. Perhaps we'll be the ones that'll colonise the galaxy. Looking
at the past 500 years of human history, that's not unlikely. Imagine we'll
be the ones in the giant discs floating over cities and exterminating the
locals with our heat waves (Human invasion on Alpha Centauri on their local
Independance Day). Again, looking at the past 500 years...
