Global Warming Proved Not a Hoax

informs us that scientists have now found an *explanation* for the weather not
warming up as much in recent years as carbon dioxide emissions would lead us to
expect.

While the article emphasizes that this might mean less urgency in battling global
warming, the fact that the discrepancy is accounted for scientifically now means
that it's no longer possible for "climate skeptics" to argue (that is, to argue
with any degree of plausibility; they may, of course, continue to lie like rugs)
that the whole notion of global warming is proved wrong and needs to be thrown
overboard.

Explanation: How has the surface temperature of Earth been
changing? To help find out, Earth scientists collected temperature
records from over 1000 weather stations around the globe since
1880, and combined them with modern satellite data. The above
movie dramatizes the result showing 130 years of planet-wide
temperature changes relative to the local average temperatures in
the mid-1900s. In the above global maps, red means warmer and blue
means colder. On average, the display demonstrates that the
temperature on Earth has increased by nearly one degree Celsius
over the past 130 years, and many of the warmest years on record
have occurred only recently. Global climate change is of more than
passing interest -- it is linked to global weather severity and
coastal sea water levels.

On Climate Change:
Earth’s changing climate is a critical issue that poses the risk of
significant disruption around the globe. While natural sources of
climate variability are significant, multiple lines of evidence
indicate that human influences have had an increasingly dominant
effect on the climate warming observed since the mid-twentieth
century. Although the magnitudes of future effects are uncertain,
human influences on the climate are growing. The potential
consequences of climate change are great and the policies of the next
few decades will determine human influences on the climate for
centuries.

Berkeley Earth has constructed an estimate of the global
average temperature during 2014, including land and sea.

The "margin of uncertainty" represents the 95% confidence
limit, obtained principally by comparison of results from
subdividing the data into independent sets. The global
temperature estimate is compiled as combination of a
land-only temperature estimate constructed by Berkeley Earth
directly, and an ocean temperature estimate produced by the
Hadley Centre in the UK and modified by Berkeley Earth.

The 130 years shows the effect of human fossil fuel burning.
Humans didn't burn much fossil fuel further back in time.
