ASTRO: Reprocess of M78
I burned in the brightest parts of the nebula in my original post. I've
toned it back some here. Still some burned in areas. 10 minute subs were just too long. The upper end was just too compressed by the ABG to get anything out of it. Seems with this camera I need to limit the top end to about 45,000 ADU if I want to dig much out of the top end. This went to 57,000. 14" LX200R @ f/10, L=3X10' RGB=2x10 all binned 2x2, STL-11000XM, Paramount ME -- Correct domain name is arvig and it is net not com. Prefix is correct. Third character is a zero rather than a capital "Oh". |

... Rick, Like it!! Lots of brightness range in this image! You also got a few of the Herbig-Haro Objects that are in the area at the lower portion of your image. You just missed McNeil's Nebula (assuming that it's still there). George N |

George N McNeils would be in the shot if it were there. It is above the HH regions up toward but not to the double that points to the HH regions and a bit right. Nothing there but a faint haze that covers the whole area. Most shots of it didn't go deep enough to show all the clouds in my shots so it looks to be below them in those shots. Use the double star as your reference. I've attached a crop with the area circled. There is a cloud there that is about the shape and location but it is very faint and the star totally gone. Can't tell if that cloud is any part of the nebula but it does have about the right shape. See http://www.seds.org/Messier/Pics/Jpg/m78mcn1.jpg for a wide angle shot of the area with the nebula in full display. Rick -- Correct domain name is arvig and it is net not com. Prefix is correct.
