Default My uncle is visiting tonight...


...and will be bringing me a "telescope" to look at,
let alone to look through.

He paid twenty dollars for it...somewhere...and could
not answer when I asked, "Is it a reflector?"

The University of Mississippi in Oxford placed an order
for an Alvan Clarke refractor; an 18.5-inch no less, but the
War of the Northern Aggression ensued and it was never
delivered...


if it had been, it might have found service for artillery spotting, but most
likely would have wound up destroyed at vicksburg, or scrapped for artillery
fuse material, etc.
