When will somebody grasp the nettle?
Which one? the one about what to do about having children in a spacecraft.
Seems to me if there is truly a need for colonisation, such a situation will arise sooner or later on a long mission with mixed crew. There are of course lots of theical problems to be sorted out, as an unborn child can hardly give consent, but I'd have hoped that the medical issues at least would be known about from flying other species. That then only leaves the human issues I suppose. Would they announce it aheead of time, or wait till it happened I wonder.. grin. OK i am being serious here, its got to happen if we want to live off world. Brian -- From the Sofa of Brian Gaff Reply address is active |

As far as I'm aware, the only pregnancies thus far are in small furry
animals. Brian -- From the Bed of Brian Gaff. The email is valid as Blind user. "JF Mezei" wrote in message eb.com... Political Correctness aside (a problem endemic to NASA), the more serious issue is the impact of space radiation on feotuses and young babies who are far mroe likely to be affected by them than grown adults. I bet it would take some access to information requests to get the data out of NASA because NASA isn't going to release this on their own because of the PR problems of admitting that either the station isn't safe enough for babies, or that they even looked at the issue of babies in space. |
