And so the man who developed, influenced, or touched the design of every
20th century spacecraft is gone.

sigh

Rest in Peace, indeed.

Sad indeed.

(Please remind us of his role in developing, influencing, or touching the
design of the Vostok. I've forgotten.)

Yes, mea culpa, I missed a required nationality adjective. His influence
was, uh, providing competition for Korolev? ;-)

It is nice to know that he got to see something somewhat similar to his
space shuttle design concept get built as White Knight and SpaceShipOne.

too bad nasa didnt support his mini station idea.

nasa wants only big budget bloated programs
..
..
End the dangerous wasteful shuttle now before it kills any more astronauts....

....they'll be long remembered though. Fred Whipple, Gordo, now Max
Faget (not to mention Christopher Reeve and Keith Miller[*]).

Legends all - RIP.
[*] Who's Keith Miller? Imagine Joe DiMaggio, Sammy Baugh, Edward
Murrow and Douglas Bader rolled into a single person. That's Keith
Miller.

Given the level of Tech in Vostok, I'd argue taht was almost 19th
century.:-)

"Boris, dahling...why are ve going after dis scientist instead of
moose and squirrel?"

"Because, Natasha, ve don't want Amerikans to beat us in space with
superior capsule. Remember, ve are using diving bells bought from Red
Army surplus store!"

"But Boris, what would Army be doing with diving bells?"

"I donno, but what I want to know is what Navy is doing with tanks!"
