I'm still not convinced of the relevance of this to real life.
Unless we develop a really good FTL drive, you would need a microscope
to see the distance we will travel in anything less than a thousand
years.
And where does the Jupiter-Saturn period come in?
Why are you multiple posting to uk.sci.astronomy, sci.space.history, and
sci.astro.seti rather than cross posting?

Default Galactic Drifter SETI (update)

There is a school of thought in SETI circles that says we will
encounter ET only by finding their artifacts. Incidently, Earth has
entered the era of primitive galactic drifters with Pioneer 10,11 and
Voyager 1,2.

The heliocentric Jupiter-Saturn closest approach event every ~19.9
years is a mutually guessable standard that could be applied to reduce
the search space in the time dimension.
